Duke Energy - athletic association track

Duke Energy Carolinas has agreed to cut its proposed rate increase for South Carolina in a deal similar to the one it worked out with customer advocates in North Carolina last month.

The two compromises mean Duke will take in hundreds of millions less in revenue over the next three years than it originally asked for. Duke already faces financialchallenges in 2010, but Duke Energy Corp. Chief Executive Jim Rogers says the proposed settlements won’t significantly affect cost-cutting plans.

“You can’t always get what you want,” he says, quoting the Rolling Stones. “But if you try sometimes, you might find, you get what you need.”

In South Carolina, Duke originally sought $133 million in revenue increases, offset by about $31 million in pay backs to customers for accidental overcharges and insurance costs.
